In
2005 the Deer Tribe Metis Medicine Society began a drive to manifest
a Spirit House of Beauty for our Path and for DTMMS.
The growing numbers of our expanding community of apprentices world-wide
make it necessary for us to invest in a larger facility. Over the
past four years, we have been steadily increasing the overall number
of apprentices.
In addition, as we prepare to reach out to the greater collective
of seekers, we seek a space that reflects beauty and the heart of
the teachings. We have powerful tools for balance and healing that
the world needs right now. The rites of passage is an example. We
have the materials; we are training the teachers. It is time for
a stable home that can handle the expansion.
In March of 2006, on the 20th anniversary of DTMMS'
incorporation, we purchased our new home!
We are now in the process of converting this property into a community
gathering place. Current plans will give us three large classrooms,
spacious administrative offices, and storage, along with a dojo
and large meeting space.
Rainbow Powers Center?!?
What happened to the Spirit House of Beauty?
Janneke sheds light on the transition:
Our inspiration early in our fund-raising process was to find a
"spirit house of beauty" - a home that truly fit the vision
of our Deer Tribe, that could hold the power of our lineage and
the creativity of living it today. Of course, the name caught on!
We began to refer to the new home as the Spirit House of Beauty.
Soon after we found our new property, the Elders reminded us that
the lineage name for the Deer Tribe's home was coined many, many
years ago: the Rainbow Powers Center. Our move
to purchase a permanent home has been a move toward the fulfillment
of this vision. We have a dream and it is dreaming us - even as
we are dreaming it! The "spirit house of beauty" grows
up as the Rainbow Powers Center.
