The Five Shields
The teachings of the Human Flowering Tree and Luminous Egg Cocoon remind us that humanity is far more than the pain and struggles of its history. By learning the developmental and evolutionary stages of being human, we uncover a deeper understanding of our potential to transform and mature. These teachings challenge us to embrace both light and shadow, turning past experiences into fertile ground for growth. Through the Luminous Egg Cocoon, we can raise our Orende, reclaim our harmony, and step into the beauty of who we are meant to be.

The Five Shields
It has been said by many that the human being is a microcosm of the macrocosm of the Universe. According to these teachings, in the macrocosm there are twelve planets which contain life. Each, like our planet Earth, revolve around a sun like our Sun. Within the microcosm of our inner universe, there are also twelve planets containing life that revolve around a sun.
The Great Light Assemblage Point is situated in the navel. It is our fibrous connection to spirit or fire. The analogy can be made that this is our sun, the “Fire From Within” which Carlos Castaneda speaks of.
The twelve little planets revolving around our internal sun are the Seven Dancers and the Five Shields. These Dancers and Shields are like beach balls of luminosity, little round spheres of light approximately 1-3′ in diameter hooked to fibers at the 3rd chakra (the navel). The Shields are hooked by a fiber of light, a tentacle-like structure about 1-8′ long which telescopes in and out. The greater our inner balance the closer the Shields are to our body and the larger their size.
Our Shields create our substance form and carry one spirit personality. They are the filters through which we perceive and interact with our physical world.
As stated above, a Shield is like a beach ball of light. It is a psychickinetic, electromagnetic force field of energy.
Within each of our Shields are five elements. Each of the Shields has a male and female side. Our Shields are encased within our Luminous Egg Cocoon, more specifically, within the first three layers of the aura. They act as filters through which we perceive the world. They are or create our substance form and carry one spirit personality of our spirit’s soul force. For example, in this lifetime, my spirit personality is named Flaming Crystal Mirror. The Five Shields are the five parts that keep me in a physical body as my soul matures. At the moment this physical body experiences death/death (that is, it dies and leaves physical form) all five of the Shields implode into the center, into the 3rd chakra, and go directly into the navel, right into the fire from within. They then explode out and become part of everything around—lamps, lights, carpet, people, everything. They disintegrate into all matter.
The Shields (see Figure 3) are located in front and behind, to the left and right, and dead center of your body. This figure shows the configuration the Shields would be in a “dream position,” that is, a person lying down with their head in the north. When you are standing up, the Spirit Shields stay in the same position but the Child Substance Shield is in back and the Adult Substance Shield is in front. The Elder Shield stays in the center always. Your Elder Shield encompasses the circumference of your waist.
• The Substance Shields (south and north) are in the gender of our physical body. That is why they are called substance. The Substance Shields spin on a vertical axis.
• The Spirit Shields (west and east) are in the gender opposite to our physical body. The Spirit Shields spin on a horizontal axis.
• Whichever Shield needs to express itself will move to the front of our luminosity.
• The Elder Shield is a perfect balance of the male and female aspects. It remains in the center.
The Bar-Dot Numbering System
You will see this numbering system used throughout this Course of Study. It is the Mayan way of representing numbers. Each dot represents 1 and each bar represents 5. Therefore, a bar with three dots above it represents 8.
When a baby is born, the Child Substance Shield is in front, and the Adult Substance Shield is behind. The Adult Spirit Shield is to the right and the Child Spirit Shield is the left. The Shields remain in this configuration until the child reaches puberty. At this point in a child who is maturing properly, the Child Substance Shield should rotate behind and the Adult Substance Shield will rotate in front. This is the configuration for a mature healthy adult as well.
All states of experience can be described through the movement of the Shields. Whatever Shield is out in front alters your personality and determines your perception of reality. For example, you are having a perfectly fine day when you receive a phone call from your mother. She asks, “Why haven’t you come to visit me today”? She also says “If you really loved me, you would visit me more often.” Bingo, you feel a tug at your navel, childhood memories flood in because of the guilt response and your Adult Substance Shield goes between your legs and your Child Substance Shield moves up over your head and to the front of your luminosity. You pout, sulk, feel hurt and wounded. You are in what is called the needy, wounded, abandoned child syndrome. Your verbal language as well as your body language changes. Your voice tone even shifts in quality. From that point on until something happens to shift the Shields back, you will perceive the world through the filter of your Child Substance Shield.
Does this sound familiar? Now you know what is happening when someone says “I got spun out.” It is literally the spinning of their Shields.
Whatever Shield is in the front alters your personality and determines your perception of reality. When one of the Substance Shields is in front, we are in our molding, sculpting and armoring, and we may experience being in domination, programmed for survival and in predator/prey mode. We frame words in our mind before speaking to them. When one of the Spirit Shields is in front, our basal metabolic rate increases, our temperature rises, and we move into multiple attentions and fast thought. We will have many more experiences and the number of options of what to do about any given situation will increase. We step into dominion and pure communication. The greater imagination we exercise, the more powerful the Spirit Shields become. However, because the tendency of our Substance Shields is to dominate, they will try to keep the Spirit Shields away from the front. This is in large part because the Substance Shields are afraid of death, therefore seek control and familiarity.
