Carlos Castaneda in The Fire From Within basically states that you should consider yourself lucky when a tyrant finds you, because then you don’t have to search one out for your learning.

He goes on to state that learning how to deal with tyrants and holding your own with them helps you to face the unknown and catch a glimpse of the unknowable. He says that most people think that a person who can hold their own in the face of the unknown should be able to face tyrants. This is an illusion and many people have been destroyed by it.

Castaneda states “We know that nothing can temper the spirit of a warrior as much as the challenge of dealing with impossible people in positions of power. Only under those conditions can warriors acquire the sobriety and serenity to stand the pressure of the unknowable”.

– The Fire From Within, Carlos Castaneda. Pocket Books, 1984. p 19.

Since time began there have been oppressors and victims and predators and prey. If you put two or more humans together in a room, experimenting with power and self-importance guided by immaturity, you will observe countless examples of man’s inhumanity to man through tyranting one another.

You don’t need to walk too far down memory lane to experience the damage an unchecked tyrant can do. You need not look farther than your own life to recognize the signs that indicate you are or have been tyranted by a person whose sole purpose was to get you to do what they want. Among the telltale signs are loss of emotional balance and control, feeling victimized in the presence of others, extreme loss of energy and feelings of inferiority brought about by intimidation.

The amazing fact is that often these tyrants are no strangers to us; rather, they are our loved ones, children, husbands and wives, as well as our inner nature that makes excuses for their behavior. The real question here is one of self-worth. Do you really deserve harmony and peace in your life? Do you deserve the freedom to design and choreograph your energy the way you want, according to your priorities? Must you be a slave to the whims and desires of someone else, or do you deserve to have boundless energy to live life? Only you can answer these questions. If you have a tyrant in your life, no matter what kind, you can use that tyrant to learn more about yourself and develop your character.

One of the greatest tragedies in response to tyrants is that when they are not stopped, when they are not given a clear mirror of how they tyrant, they continue to become more skilled. What that means to you is more intimidation and eventual energy loss. You can bring an end to this tyranting behavior today, right now, by simply knowing what kind of tyrant you are dealing with and then applying the appropriate remedy to stop them. However, you can do more; you can count coup on them. This means to turn the mirrors around so they can see their tyranting behavior for what it is and thus help them see the potential for bringing true happiness into their lives. This is what they were trying to do in the first place by using a misguided strategy.

It takes courage to foil the well-laid plans of a tyrant. You must look into your own shadow to discover what in you opened the door to the tyrant in the first place. You must call upon the warrior in you who is the stalker and is determined to take charge of your life through self-control, discipline, forbearance, timing and will. As you learn to count coup on the external tyrant, you will gain valuable information and insights on how to deal with the biggest tyrant of all – yourself.

In this blog series you will learn the many faces of the tyrants. You will learn about the other tyrants of life like time, situations, space and the environment. You will also learn about the people called “Two-Legged Tyrants” and what their focus is for tyranting you. You will clearly see how you opened the door and let the tyrant in. Best of all, this Course of Study teaches you how to stop any tyrant from stealing your life force energy and how to count coup and gain the true teaching for both you and the tyrant.

Happy Stalking!
