PREPARATION TO MEET THE TYRANTS: SCULPTING

Explore Molding Part 1 & Part 2 here.

What happens next is a process called sculpting. It is said that there are two kinds of sculptors in the world. The first finds a stone and says “I will carve this stone into a dolphin”. The second is a true artist. He is one who sees the spirit within the stone and then chips away whatever is not part of that.

If you look back at your life, you will find that the people in your life and, indeed, your own inner reaction to life was more like the first sculptor then the second. This is where the sculptor takes the stone (our mold) and says, “I want this to be a turkey or duck or a horse” and begins to make one. The tragedy about this is that we begin to believe that this is really who we are. Do the people in our lives do this consciously and on purpose? Sometimes yes, and sometimes they are repeating the way they were raised, doing what they think is best to raise their child to be successful and accepted in the world. It doesn’t matter, for the sculpting process occurs anyway.

When sculpting happens, those around you begin to shape your basic mold into a particular configuration. Instead of developing the full majesty and magick of the deer, you are fitting the duck or horse mold they are creating. This configuration will, hopefully, make you an acceptable member of the society you live in. In our scenario this is where the sculptors take this mold and say, “This will be a duck because the rest of us are ducks.”

At first you protest and squawk that you are indeed a deer or snake, but to no avail. They begin to reshape you-your behavior, your thought processes and, literally, your very body structure until indeed you can no longer carry the magic of your totem animal. However, deep inside you something refuses to be altered. Perhaps you keep it hidden in a special place in your subconscious or unconscious. This is the knowing of who you really are, your natural self.

And so, the process of the sculpting continues. If you are lucky, you will find a teacher or some teachings that help you sculpt yourself into your natural self. If not, you live an “unnatural or foreign” existence, never showing and letting shine the beauty and majesty of your true nature.

We are here in physical form to remember or rediscover who we really are, our natural self. We are here to resculpt ourselves consciously into the deer who carries the magick or the snake that awakens reality, or whatever your totem animal is. Part of dancing our dream awake is becoming our own sculptor to develop our true nature self. This is the beauty and gift that can come from the sculpting process.
