Understanding Trauma: A Practical Framework For Responding
Friday, August 30th 4-7:30pm MST / PDT
In this 3.5-hour presentation, attendees will gain practical skills and understanding to recognize and address trauma responses in themselves or others with empathy and competence, though it is not a therapeutic training. The session starts by establishing a safe and present environment and setting agreements to handle the topic sensitively. It then explores trauma definitions using accessible language and visuals, focusing on Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory, which explains how the autonomic nervous system affects our sense of safety and threat. Participants will learn practical tools to manage trauma responses, emphasizing compassionate self-care and teaching these practices to others.
