Part of the Journeys Into the Mirror collection of reflections by Janneke Koole—born from a lifetime of spiritual practice, personal healing, and a deep connection to nature. Inspired by her mother’s way of seeing beauty in the everyday, Janneke invites us to look at the outer seasons as mirrors for our inner lives. Each piece offers a story, image, or guided practice to help you reconnect with your senses, your spirit, and your own truth as a woman.
When I first opened to the World of Spirit Beings, I began to sense the presence of sprites, fairies, gnomes, and all kinds of “little people” moving at the edges of my awareness. These beings, once only characters in stories, revealed themselves as subtle companions who remind us that there is far more to this world than what we see. As I learned to listen and to feel their quiet touch, I realized they were relations too—gentle guides who help us notice the magic woven through everyday life and the spark of mystery that lives within us.
Women are like Spirit Beings
Sprites, fairies, gnomes and all kinds of “little people”
You can find them in corners together being
Impish, giggly and frivolous
Given to make things beautiful
And loving all forms of shiny things
We’ll do almost anything to make another person happy
We will sing and dance and make the most delightful things for you
(We even make the impossible possible sometimes)
And just when you think you have us figured out
Blink, we’ve changed!
In fact, you have to be careful because we can also trick you when you least expect it!
Yet it is undeniable that when we are around, especially when we are welcomed,
appreciated, and honored, everything and everyone feels better
Take a moment to sit beside some moving water—
it could be a small fountain in your home, a burbling brook in the preserve
or the water dripping from your fingers as you lay back in your own bathtub.
Relax and silence your inner dialogue. Then ask yourself these questions:
If I could hear the sound of spirit, what would it sound like?
If I could see spirit beings, what would they look like?
If I could communicate with the little people,
what would I say and what would they say to me?
If I could feel the presence of spirit, what would I sense or know?
Let the answers bubble up from deep inside you. Notice what happens.
What did you experience in your heart?
What happened to the corners of your mouth or the sensations in your belly?
Spirit is always present with us, in us, in us, and all around us.
You know—we know—it is natural to hear, see, feel and communicate with spirit.
Take a moment to listen to spirit each and every day.

I am a Spirit Being; I am ____________
