Symbol Interpretation is an art that we develop over many years of experience and study; in fact, it is a skill worth training our whole life. As we learn, grow, and evolve, we harvest that learning inside memories, associations, body sensations and pre- or non-verbal inner knowing. Each of us has a storehouse of these inside of us; some we are aware of and can articulate; some remain within the deeper layers of our subconscious and unconscious mind spaces.

In addition, we were born into a collective conscious and collective unconscious mind space. We have absorbed these symbols, associations and meanings without awareness and they often remain hidden. They set frames of reference and anchor our unconscious responses to each and every input in our everyday experience (smells, sounds, colors, intonations, gestures, environmental shifts, circumstantial changes, and more).

Many wise and learned men and women have studied symbols across time and within various cultures. Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell are renowned in this field. Many encyclopedias on symbols, dream interpretation and mythologies across time and cultures provide rich resources for personal study.
