The Moon Cycles: The Four Big Moons

In Figure 3, you will see the Four Big Moons and the nine Circles of Life Experience within each of those Big Moons. The numbers in the cardinal directions indicate your age in years and months. For example, 20.3 is read as 20 years and 3 months. These are ages at which you will leave each direction and move clockwise to the next direction on the wheel.

The Big South Moon: The Child Moon

The first twenty-seven years are spent developing your story. During this time, we sculpt our particular personality and choose our ways to entertain ourselves and others. This Moon teaches about learning Trust: trusting of and for ourselves, others, and life itself. If we are in alignment and we do develop this trust, we move into the state of beauty called innocence. If we choose not to trust, avoiding life and our lessons, we dance our “Circle of Mythology.” We indulge ourselves in the entertainment of our myths, totally caught in our circle of illusion.

The Big West Moon: The Adolescent Moon

The next twenty-seven years is the time for either actualizing our dream or relinquishing our power to the preferences of others. It teaches us of the constant movement within life. We are continually confronted by transformation, death, and change. If we are in alignment we can choose to develop the power of true introspection and learn to apply our intuition in a magickal way. Otherwise, we may never meet and know the true power that may be found within. We often blame “others” for our lack of success. We stay at the effect of ourselves, life, and others, becoming trapped in our non-actualized Daydream pain and blame game.

The Big North Moon: The Adult Moon

From age 54.9 to 81, you bear the fruit of the changes and growth you made in the West moon. You will either achieve a sense of harmony and wisdom, or become brittle with belief systems that are held rigid no matter how hard the winds of change blow. This Moon teaches about the power of the mind, of wisdom and logic. We can choose freedom by accepting all knowledge as valid, by adopting open philosophies and belief systems. Or we can remain rigid and stagnant within our minds by staying closed to “other ways.” In so doing, we lose the power and even the connection to the mind, becoming senile and child-like.

The Big East Moon: The Elder Moon

Few people actually make it into this Moon nowadays. This is a loud statement about our collective imbalance, for this is the Moon wherein you would naturally learn from illumination and enlightenment. This is the Moon wherein we prepare for our journey back to the Great Light. At this point we either become a balanced elder or move toward senility and stay in our illusion circle. It has been said that death prior to this point is actually an abortion of life!
