The Star Maidens Circle: The West

Excerpted from “A Course of Study, Series A: Module 2: THE MEDICINE WHEEL OF LIFE: THE STAR MAIDENS CIRCLE″, written by Mary Flaming Crystal Mirror. See Part 1: Introduction here.

The West of the SMC is the place of the Daydream. The meaning of the energy in this direction is not totally understood by the common use of this word. When SwiftDeer translates the teachings from the native tongue, he has to find the English word that most closely fits the meaning. It is often a difficult task to take a meaning from one language and find one word in a different language that captures that same meaning. The West, the place of introspection and intuition, the place of the women, is the birthing place. It is the place from which our dreams are born. This is the gestation place for ideas, desires, hopes, fears and all things we wish to create for ourselves. It is where we dream about what could be and begin to nurture that dream into manifestation.

The dark mirror of the daydream is when we are caught at the effect of our past pain tapes and perceptions, or caught fretting about the future, both of which keep us out of the now. We are not alert to reality as it exists. When we find ourselves blaming others or circumstances, we are caught in the daydream. For example, a woman dreams of being a doctor. However, because of her myths and closed symbols, she becomes a nurse instead. She says “I could have been a doctor except my mother told me I couldn’t have what I wanted in life. It’s her fault.” In and of itself, there is nothing wrong with her being a nurse. However, if her dream is to be a doctor, she is caught in the dark daydream. She is not dreaming into her life what her heart desires.

Many people think they are taking responsibility if they are blaming themselves rather than others. This is an error. The word responsibility breaks down this way: response-ability, or in other words, the ability to respond. When you blame yourself or others, you are not responding to life constructively to create the change and transformation needed. The light mirror of the daydream is death, change, and movement. It is embodying the ability to respond to your heart’s desire. It is moving through the deaths necessary to truly have a birthing place for new ideas. It is staying present in reality as it exists.

The Cast and Crew sit in the West of the Movie Drama Wheel. The Cast refers to what we call our own five shields and seven dancers. These will be covered in detail in a later module. For now, know they are parts of our energy field which hold various aspects of our total being. These are parts of us that are eager for full character development in the movie of our life. The Crew refers to everyone who is a part of our reality. You have dreamed these people into your life. They are like your hired hands: you have an agreement with each one to participate in the development of who you are. Without them, your movie couldn’t happen.

The Warrior’s Attributes here are Power and Strength. Power is your ability to will something when you don’t have strength. Through the use of your will, you can access and utilize all of your resources. Strength is how much physical force you can demonstrate when lifting, running, or performing any exercises without experiencing a loss of orende. It is the endurance factor of expended energy over time. Power and strength together create consistency and continuity in being at cause. The ability to choose the physical activities you want means you have good health.
